All's Fair Play Social Media Strategy
Since their fan base knew vlogs and expected a similar immersive online presence the creators decided to have Vlog segments from two of the younger characters at the party Daria and Sammy. It felt right for these two characters to have Twitter accounts to accompany these vlog segments of theirs. They were younger they didn’t have Twitter to keep up to date on current events more as a public chat room that only their friends were likely to respond to. What was subtextual with Jane’s Tumblr was not for the likes of Daria and Sammy.
For this production, the creators wanted to go a different route than they did for The Autobiography of Jane Eyre. For The Autobiography of Jane Eyre (AoJE) we had several websites, social media sites or different characters. All’s Fair Play was not an adaptation or a Vlog and it wasn’t in any one person’s particular POV like with Jane Eyre. I decided we didn’t need these characters to be on social and to go deeper with them. Instead, I wanted that audience to be outside the action and the creators also didn’t want the audience to know what was going to happen next.
Sammy was the younger sister to Daria and had no filter. Her Twitter was what gen Z would call a finsta today. If I were to launch this today, I would have chosen TikTok rather than what is now called X to depict their inner lives through social media. Snapchat was discussed at the time but it didn’t have the reach it has today.
Daria was the older sibling so her Twitter was posted less, and she wanted to appear more adult to the adults at the engagement party. I needed a platform that was realistic for two sisters to talk to each other on but not engage as much with each other.
The outcome for the series was a b plot instagram and and vlog that added to the main plot but didn’t take away from it. I also was in charge of Kalamatea’s Instagram but as the creators went on to do other works this isn’t an active account.
